this past weekend, i did this to some unsuspecting white yarn. the tutorial came from KnitPicks but as we don't have a microwave, i tweaked it. instead of 'zapping it' for two minutes, i turned the burner on under the pot until the liquid began to steam and quickly turned it off and set the pot on a trivet.
after the first round of this i pulled about 1/3 of the yarn out over the side of the pot and quickly learned that i should put a bowl under it lest capillary action make a pink swimming pool of my stovetop. after the second round of heating i pulled another 1/3 out and after the third round of heating, i left the last 1/3 in the pot and went for a (very blustery) walk.
when i came back, the bowl was full of only faintly pink water and i had an amzing yarn that ranges from strawberries and cream pink to saturated red. thanks to fruit punch Kool-Aid.
stay tuned in the coming week for what it will become!
i love the green handspun - i call it bottle green. it's so clear a color, like green glass.
the pattern, Manly Mitts, makes the perfect size and shape.
they were originally R.'s cadeau de Noel in 2006
he's christmas socks are finished!
pattern: Log Cabin Socks from Handknit Holidays
yarn: Paton's Classic Wool Merino in Paprika
they are imperfect, as most first socks are i suppose.
but i love them anyway (and i think he does too).

SHOP UPDATE!
Oak Crowned
the newest Vintage Crown Design is now in the shop.
as Lily Crowned and Rose Crowned, Oak Crowned is made from a vintage French linen sheet rescued from the flea market in Orleans, France by Yvonne and I.
and even better, another update tomorrow!

we were in the French part of our world.
we travelled so much, i never quite knew were we were.
we were in Belgium for his father
the french country for his grandparents
Paris for his friends
we read
we (ok, i) knit (at political rallies, education debates, on trains, in planes, in cars)
and now, we're back.
i'm re-setting up shop.
keep your eyes open, new things will be popping up soon.
this is what happens when your internet installation kit arrives.
poor breakfast - abandoned for the web.
so, with internet access i can finally tell you (who are you?) what's been going on!
crash course:
1.) Romain arrived in July.
2.) he was too tall for the apartment i found (seriously).
3.) we found the perfect apartment - well, almost perfect.
4.) we set about making it perfect:
(note: when decorating a north facing room - don't use navy blue wallpaper.)
5.) we had a little housewarming celebration
6.) so did the mice, so we found them new homes of a more forest-y variety
frank, sabrina, shelley, wilber, and beatrix.
they all had peanut butter feasts before being released from this awesome (harmless) trap (Mice Cube).
7.) we got the internet.
so that just about catchs us up. there won't be a quiz. but i'm planning big things.
now i can get my Etsy shop up and running again with new and wonderous product.
and there is a chill in the air, so mittens on the needles:
beauty.
